These paintings evolve as layers are applied covering and revealing new shapes and colours. There is not a plan in advance, I am using the memory of my recent visit to the stones of Carnac. The surface evolves in the same way as the landscape, time changes things, a painting is complete when it sits just right in my mind, nothing needed to be added or taken away, a strange stillness and calm, like a journey complete.

Inspired by a visit to the famous stone alignments of Carnac I started creating mysterious compositions of shapes which suggest an elusive meaning. Something important at the edge of our understanding.

The Dordogne region of France is full of medieval towns with buildings that refuse to follow straight lines. These lines inspire unlikely compositions that sit comfortably on the eye.

Man has a universal search for meaning which is always just out of reach, that's where I like it because it keeps us wondering!

We still don't know how the great stones of Carnac or Stonehenge were moved. Once we perhaps knew more than we do now or perhaps what we knew was more relevant to living in nature as it once was.

As I paint the layers which make up the surface I search for an unlikely composition which sits in balance, still and complete without need of anything. Contentment may be found here?
